Journey of the Sorcerer is one of four instrumental songs recorded by the Eagles, the other three being the instrumental version of Doolin-Dalton, Doolin-Dalton (Instrumental), Wasted Time (Reprise) and I Dreamed There Was No War. Journey of the Sorcerer is written by Bernie Leadon, who also plays banjo on it.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The creator of the comedy science fiction series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams, liked the track so much that he used it as the theme tune for the series. Apparently, Adams chose this song for its futuristic-sounding nature, but also for the fact that it had a banjo in it, which Adams said would give an "on the road, hitch-hiking feel" to it.
